BECKLEY, W.Va. (WV News) — An additional 23 individuals alleged to have been in the country illegally were arrested in the state in recent days, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Tuesday.
The latest arrests bring the total number of people arrested in West Virginia through the state’s participation in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s 287(g) program to 60.
"I previously announced there were 37 arrests of illegal immigrants," the governor said. "Now I can say with certainty that the State Police, in coordination with ICE, made an additional 23 arrests, with 18 (occurring) just this past Saturday."
Nine of the arrests occurred on I-77 near Exit 48, which leads onto U.S. 19 northbound, as the result of traffic stops, Morrisey said.
