Tammy Carolyn Gaich

A 35-year-old Maryland woman is facing a laundry list of charges after deputies say she swerved off the road, smelled like alcohol, and had an open bottle of vodka and a stash of pills in her car.

According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol conducted a traffic stop on Skinners Turn Road in Owings after watching a vehicle strike a curb and cross the white fog line several times.

When deputies approached the driver, Dunkirk resident Tammy Carolyn Gaich, they “detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her person,” the sheriff’s office said.

She submitted to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests — which she failed — and was placed under arrest for allegedly driving under the influence.

A subsequent search led to a more explosive discovery for the responding deputies.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies found a collection of alcohol containers — two empty wine bottles, an open vodka bottle, and even a reusable water bottle containing an unknown alcoholic beverage, investigators said.

Deputies also found a pill bottle with 76 pills suspected to be Adderall, specifying that 49 of them were not prescribed to Gaich.

She was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where she was charged with:

  • Driving while impaired;
  • Driving under the influence;
  • CDS: Possession of not cannabis;
  • Open container in a vehicle.

No details about her next court appearance were released by the sheriff's office.
