CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Wyoming Highway Patrol said the Wyoming state capitol building has been evacuated because of a report of a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

In addition to the evacuation, roads from 21st Street to 27th Street have been closed between Carey Avenue and Central Avenue, highway patrol said in an update at 12:07 p.m. on October 21.

Wyoming Highway Patrol said these steps were taken quickly and safely as a precaution.

There is not a timeline for a return to the Capitol. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming DCI, Cheyenne Police Department, the Joint EOD Team and federal agencies are involved in the response, according to Highway Patrol.
