SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport Job Corps Center says it’s back open and enrolling again, but there’s one problem: no money for training supplies.

“We are open for business. We are enrolling new students,” Center Director Dennis Essom told the Caddo Parish Commission on Monday. “We are bringing in 12 to 15 new students. We are increasing our enrollment. Our trades are back and actively engaging students in training.”

The center, which narrowly avoided a shutdown earlier this year, has restored funding for operations but not for its career-technical training materials... the tools, paint, welding equipment, and classroom supplies that make the program work.
