TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced a lawsuit over the delay in getting her sworn into Congress.
Grijalva won the Special Election in September, but has not been sworn into office.
House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the delay on the government shutdown, and has said he looks forward to swearing her in as soon as the government resumes business.
The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. against the U.S. House of Representatives seeks to ensure Ms. Grijalva’s swearing in as a member of Congress following her election.
“Speaker Mike Johnson is actively stripping the people of Arizona of one of their seats in Congress and disenfranchising the voters of Arizona’s seventh Congressional district in
