LAKE WORTH, Texas — Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath visited Lucyle Collins Middle School on Tuesday , signaling that the district’s chances of avoiding a state takeover are slim.
“The reason for my visit is because of chronic academic problems at several campuses in Lake Worth,” Morath said.
All but one of the district’s schools received failing grades this year. Miller Language Academy received its fifth consecutive “F” rating, which automatically triggered state intervention.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Morath said he observed classrooms and saw both positive practices and significant challenges.
“We saw evidence of significant practice that will result in learning, and we saw challenges,” Morath said. “Good examples and bad examples.”
During the visit, Morath m
