A body believed to be that of a missing bushwalker has been discovered in Tasmania following a search lasting more than a week.

Daryl Fong had been missing since Sunday, October 12, after setting out on a solo hike in the Mount Field National Park, about 60km north-west of Hobart, to photograph the Tarn Shelf Circuit.

Authorities launched a search for him amid challenging conditions including waist-deep snow, poor visibility, and gale-force winds.

The body was found 6pm yesterday.

Police Inspector Luke Horne today praised search crews for their efforts.
