A letter alerting the Hudson town clerk to Grace Gato’s social media posts in October 2024 started a chain of events that led to Gato’s arrest earlier this month for wrongful voting.

While Gato has denied any wrongdoing, a probable cause affidavit provided by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office traces the steps that led investigators to eventually charge Gato with one count of wrongful voting, a Class A misdemeanor, for having “knowingly applied for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 5, 2024, election in a name other than her own.”

Gato is accused of applying for an absentee ballot on Oct. 21, 2024, in the name of her mother, Ruby Ponce, who had died on Oct. 15.
