BOSTON (SHNS) - Public education advocates rallied Tuesday for the Senate to join the House in overriding the governor's "shocking" $20 million veto for charter school reimbursements to public schools.

When she signed the fiscal year 2026 budget this summer, Gov. Maura Healey drained $19.9 million from the pool available for charter school tuition reimbursement, bringing total funding down to $179.9 million, in line with her original budget filing. The House overrode that veto earlier this month to authorize about $199 million for fiscal 2026 despite the governor's objection.
