MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) -- It has been nearly one year since a referendum passed last November to fund some mental health programs in Piatt County, helping local organizations with a common goal: giving people the help they need.

On average, people are paying around $75 more a year in property taxes in the area, giving the county an estimated $618,000 in revenue, according to the Piatt County Mental Health Center’s Executive Director Tony Kirkman.

The Center is one of four local non-profits benefitting from the tax being levied. Marisa’s Purpose, Hope Lives Ranch and the Jamie Boone Project are other partner agencies with the 708 Piatt County Mental Health Board.

Kirkman said the tax has been crucial in helping The Center with a problem they keep running into.
