CONCORD – It came down to the last kick of the ball Tuesday night at Garnet Valley. Or, more accurately, the last shoulder of the ball.
Taylor Bryan threw her body at a corner kick and bundled it over the line from four yards out with 7.2 seconds left in the second overtime period to lead 13th-seeded Garnet Valley past Souderton, 2-1, in the first round of the District 1 Class 4A tournament.
Both teams scored in the first half, via GV’s Raelynn Smith and Cailee Cush of Souderton, the 20th seed. But the Jaguars (12-5-2), who made states last year, had the better of play and finally cashed in via Bryan.
The game was stopped with 11.1 seconds left, the Jaguars having won a corner but an injury to Souderton’s Providence-bound middie Hannah Beckett allowing them the time to take it.
