JONES COUNTY, Georgia — Jones County Commissioners are not accepting any new data center proposals for the next 90 days.
On Tuesday night, commissioners voted 4-1 to place a 90-day moratorium on data centers. The pause comes after another motion at Monday's Jones County Planning and Zoning meeting, that suggested regulating where data centers can build.
At that meeting, board member Stephen Hoyt made a motion that would only allow data centers to build on industrial land, such as industrial parks, as opposed to commercial or agricultural land.
Previously, there had been backlash from Jones County residents surrounding data centers.
