Two ex-politicians from each side of the political divide and an environmentalist have received the City of Joondalup’s top gong.
Former Labor MP Pam Beggs, one-time Liberal attorney-general Cheryl Edwardes and coastal conservationist Michael Norman were this week named freemen of the city.
They join the city’s other freemen in former district mayors William Marwick and Brian Cooper, and the late Margaret Cockman and Nick Trandos.
Ms Beggs, who was elected Whitford MLA in 1983 and was one of Labor’s first women ministers, rode the first train from Perth to Joondalup in 1992 as the transport minister, marking the opening of the northern corridor train line extension.
She continues to advocate for older residents as the president of the Whitfords Senior Citizens’ Club.
Ms Edwardes was K
