Student accused of making threat against WHS said it was a joke

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) - A juvenile was arrested after allegedly making a threat against Watertown High School.

On Tuesday, the Watertown Police Department said they were notified before 7 p.m. Tuesday by the State Police Counter Terrorism Unit of an alleged threatening post made online.

Authorities found the juvenile accused of making the threat. Police officials said the child said it was a joke and didn't mean to post the threat.

The youth is accused of falsely reporting of an emergency and making a threat of mass harm, which are both misdemeanors.

The juvenile was issued an appearance ticket.
