The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society will have two memorials in honor of the 50th anniversary since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on Lake Superior.

The commemorative ceremonies will happen on Monday, Nov. 10, with a public ceremony happening at 2 p.m. and a private memorial at 7 p.m.

The public ceremony will be held outside, underneath the Whitefish Point lighthouse on the shores of Lake Superior in Paradise, Michigan.

Corey Adkins, director of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, said there will be no seating or tent set-up for the public ceremony, and there will be limited parking options.

“We’ll do the best we can with the weather we have,” Adkins said. “The only reason we would ever cancel the outdoor event is if it’s a hazard to human lives.”
