SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)—New Yorkers are starting to receive their inflation refund checks from the State's Department of Taxation and Finance, but depending on where you do your banking, depositing your check might not be as convenient as you think.
The State's Tax Department said the paper checks are legitimate and are being mailed automatically to eligible 2023 taxpayers. The State says there is no need to apply or provide personal information to receive your check.
"It has sent and is sending paper checks and whatever your bank's policy is for deposit should be followed for those," said Susan Pedo, Director of Public Information at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
Yet, depending on where you do your banking, policies differ on how you can cash it.
