BEAUMONT, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) sent street teams to several busy Beaumont intersections Wednesday to promote pedestrian safety as part of its statewide Be Safe. Drive Smart. campaign.
The outreach comes during October, the deadliest month of the year for pedestrians, according to TxDOT. The agency says the initiative aims to raise awareness as daylight hours shorten and pedestrian risks increase.
Street teams of “walking billboards” displayed key safety messages for drivers and pedestrians. The teams are stationed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Washington Boulevard between Avenue C and South MLK Jr. Parkway, and from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. along College Street (TX-90) between South 11th and South 4th streets.
