A new speed camera on Coastal Highway near Lewes is now active.

The Electronic Speed Safety Program camera is located on the southbound side of the highway at Pondview Drive, just north of Red Mill Pond. Signage is posted to warn drivers of its presence.

Construction is underway in the area, on new roads that will separate through-traffic on Coastal Highway (Route 1) from Minos Conaway, Nassau and Old Mill roads. The speed enforcement camera will aid in the safety of construction workers and travelers, Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Charles McLeod said.
