Just in time for Halloween, local actor John Michael Cox presents a one-person performance of “Hamlet” that leans heavily into the ghostly aspects of Shakespeare’s tragedy.

Cox will perform his brisk 75-minute adaptation, “Goodnight Sweet Prince: A Solo Performance of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet,’” on Oct. 30 at Centre Stage.

Cox takes on 15 roles, male and female, with few props and against the backdrop of minimal sets. He adds music and other creative elements, but the words remain Shakespeare’s.

“There’s something magical about one-person shows,” Cox said. “The audience and I see what our imaginations can do together.”

Shakespeare’s tragedy centers on the melancholy Prince of Denmark, haunted by a ghostly presence as he grieves his father’s death and his mother’s hasty re-marriage.
