Agartala, 23 rd October 2025: In a major anti-narcotics operation, over ₹4.5 crore worth of contraband cough syrup was seized from two freight wagons at Jirania Railway Station on October 16. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising Assam Rifles, Customs officials, and local police intercepted the Delhi-Agartala goods train and recovered the narcotics from wagons numbered 30030010892 and 3103257043.

The operation, which had been under surveillance since the train passed through Badarpur, led to the recovery of 1.74 lakh bottles of cough syrup packed in 174 cartons. The seizure has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the state administration of shielding influential individuals allegedly linked to the smuggling network.
