SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Redevelopment Commission has approved FOP #36 funding for a new warehouse building.
FOP #36 is a nonprofit that’s been running the “Santa’s Elficers” program since 2016. They provide gifts for children in need during the holiday season.
When it first started, about 40 children received presents. That number has now grown to more than 600 last year, and so did the donations.
The nonprofit is currently using part of the South Bend Police Department building to store food and other items.
The nonprofit has been planning to buy a new warehouse to avoid any possible disturbances to day-to-day police operations.
Now that it’s expected to have its own dedicated warehouse, the president of the nonprofit is hoping to expand its seasonal giveaway program
