NEW JERSEY — For many New Jersey voters weighing their choice for governor in the Nov. 4 general election, the high cost of living is the key factor, and Republican Jack Ciatterelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill have offered specific plans to make living in the Garden State less expensive.

But while “affordability” may be the race's biggest issue, it’s not the only one.

These are the top five issues New Jerseyans care about, according to polls, policy experts and the Ciattarelli and Sherrill campaigns:

Affordability

Eighty-five percent of New Jerseyans say they are unsatisfied with how the state government is handling cost of living and affordability — a 10-point increase in dissatisfaction since 2017, according to a July 10 poll by the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers Univers
