NEW BRUNSWICK – Whether she has to visit her podiatrist in Piscataway or her cardiologist in Franklin, Louise Jackson always utilizes Dial-A-Ride - a free curb-to-curb transportation service provided to the city’s seniors, residents with disabilities, and low-income neighbors.

“Dial-A-Ride has been very helpful to me,” she said. “I don’t know what I would do without it.”

Jackson and many others who would otherwise struggle to find transportation to non-emergency medical and mental health appointments and physical therapy sessions as well as social service locations gathered Tuesday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dial-A-Ride.

The service that began with two vehicles and an active list of 425 clients has grown into a cornerstone municipal service over the past five decades.
