The Harris County Auditor’s Office said it plans to conduct semi-annual audits of the county’s flood control district weeks after County Judge Lina Hidalgo said a previous audit revealed the district’s contracting process allegedly put residents in harm’s way.

Hidalgo renewed calls for reform in the county’s procurement process again this week and urged the county auditor’s office to implement semi-annual audits of county departments to ensure that contracts with Harris County are following the proper procurement process for receiving contracts.

“I’ve already announced that I’m not running for re-election, so in two years, I’m not going to be here to call attention to this,” she said. “It’s really important that this be institutionalized.”
