A victim who suffered years-long sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather has recounted how "nothing will ever hurt me like the actual court".
In an impact statement that was quoted from but not read in its entirety on Friday, October 24, the woman described the trauma of being raped and indecently assaulted as a child, sometimes on a weekly basis.
The ACT Supreme Court also heard how her suffering extended to the trial proceedings and "being called a liar" for days while giving evidence in the witness box.
In June, jurors found her stepfather guilty of 16 charges that included incest, persistent sexual abuse of a child and committing an act of indecency on a child.
He cannot be named due to court suppression orders and to protect the victim's identity.
