A B.C. Supreme Court jury has convicted a young hitman of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting outside the golf course near UBC three years ago.
The jury also found Balraj Singh Basra, 25, guilty of arson for helping burn a stolen getaway car found near the spot where United Nations gangster Vish Walia was killed.
Astute neighbours spotted the Audi A4 sedan burning in a lane behind 21st Avenue near Crown Street and called police with the plate number of a second escape vehicle, which led to Basra and his co-accused getting arrested within an hour.
The five-week trial before Justice Warren Milman heard from several police officers involved in tracking and pursuing the getaway vehicle.
