DULUTH — The Northland music community is mourning Duluth singer-songwriter Todd Eckart, who died Wednesday at age 61.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Eckart was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 53 south of Superior when his vehicle was struck by another driver traveling in the wrong direction. Both men died at the scene.

Eckart was well-known in the Northland as a busy performer who embraced a retro style and often paid tribute to past greats like Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley.

"He liked vintage things," said Marvin Pomeroy, a Duluth drummer who played regularly with Eckart. "Vintage clothing, vintage furniture, vintage architecture, vintage music."
