RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program kicked off its annual ‘Halloween Booze It & Lose It’ campaign today.

The state Department of Transportation says law enforcement will increase patrolling and sobriety checkpoints to catch impaired drivers during the holiday week.

“If you have a small child, or even for adults, be visible. Wear something so the motorist can see you at night. Also, bring something like a light. Use something to give you visibility,” said Rico Stephens, master trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. “Also, use the sidewalks, something that is used for pedestrian crossing.”
