DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Earlier this month, local and state leaders celebrated the end of the Twin Ports Interchange Project.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Friday that Highway 53 and Garfield Ave connections are officially open to the public.

As we reported, the Twin Ports interchange was officially completed on Oct. 6, untangling the notorious can of worms. The past few weeks have been a waiting game for many Northlanders eager to use the new roadways.

MnDOT’s announcement means that ramp connections for Highway 53 to/from I-35/I-535 opened in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 24, in Duluth.

Also opening are the connecting ramps between Garfield Ave. and the I-535 Blatnik Bridge.
