Park City Municipal and its contractor, Alpine Forestry, will conduct pile burning operations in the Prospector area (SOS Trail) on Monday, Oct. 27.

The city said this prescribed burn is necessary to reduce the fuel load in the Wildland Urban Interface. Conditions are favorable for smoke clearing, and the city expects impacts to be minimal.

Pile burning is the controlled ignition of organic materials following the collection of fuels (e.g. branches, logs, dead trees, excessive underbrush, etc.). It is utilized in forest management to reduce wildfire risk and promote forest health where steep and isolated terrain eliminate options for chipping or removing material.
