This week, the two candidates for Midway mayor, Craig Simons and Miller Wright, along with the three candidates for City Council, Genene Probst-Miles, Andy Garland and J.C. Simonsen, met to answer questions for the public ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
Growth, parking and short-term rentals were key issues.
Midway’s Transient Rental Overlay District — a zone in the town that allows nightly rentals — was a point of contention. The zone produces revenue for the city and individual residents, but some neighbors are frustrated with property owners neglecting the rules.
Simonsen’s view is that the cons of the district outweigh the pros and advocated for reducing or removing the zone.
