BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WTAJ) — After an emergency hearing and hearing both sides, a Centre County judge has ruled that a vacant school board seat is not required to be on the upcoming ballot.
The Philipsburg-Osceola School District filed a lawsuit against the Centre County Board of Elections earlier this week, alleging a vacant school board seat was required to be on the upcoming ballot, but was absent.
Judge Brian Marshall held an emergency hearing to hear testimonies from both sides. Morgan Madden, representing the board of elections, told Marshall the vacant school board seat would be on a single precinct's ballot in Philipsburg. That precinct has 563 electors, with 44 mail-in ballots requested and 27 of those already turned in.
