In a scrap befitting of the teams' shared canine nickname, Kickemuit squeaked by visiting Hope Highlands-Cranston on penalty kicks Thursday, Oct. 23, at Warren's Veterans Park in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 girls' middle school state championship playoffs.
The third-seeded Huskies remained undefeated through 12 games by beating the sixth-seeded Huskies 2-1, 3-2 on shots.
Gianna Farla, Ava Afonso and Charlotte Loftus, the latter potting the decider, converted their PKs for the locals and goalie Ava Pereira made the game-clinching save on Hope Highland's fifth and last attempt.
KMS advanced to the semifinals next week against third-seeded Chariho. Hope Highlands' season came to a close with a 9-2-0 overall record.
The visitors were first on the board in just the game
