Major changes to food waste and recycling collections in Darlington have been explained. New weekly food waste and recycling collections will be introduced as part of a new scheme starting in April 2026.
General household waste will still be collected fortnightly, Darlington Borough Council said. Before the food waste recycling collections start, new bins will be delivered free of charge to every house in Darlington.
They include a small food waste caddy for the kitchen and a larger food waste bin for outside. A roll of 52 biodegradable caddy liners will also be provided.
Residents will be asked to put food waste, such as peelings, leftovers, out-of-date items and tea bags, in the lined caddy and put it in the outside food waste bin. The food waste bin will be collected once a week al
