MARION — Althoff Catholic’s defense of last season’s state championship will extend to the Mascoutah Sectional after shutting out Carbondale, 6-0, in the Class 2A Marion Regional championship game Saturday morning.

The first 10 minutes of the first half went by quietly until senior Crusader Luke Smith scored the first Althoff goal at the 30:18 mark.
