CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - About 200 JV cross country runners raced at Seminole Park in Cedar Rapids for their state meet on Saturday.
After months of prep work, Easton Mai , a Prairie High School grad and Cornell College cross country runner put on the race for the second year in a row.
“Going from last year only having 51 racers to having 186 signed up this year. I mean that’s almost four times as big. That’s amazing,” Mai said.
Mai’s race first started as an Instagram account, where he got the idea to rank JV athletes just like how the state ranks varsity runners.
He was a JV runner himself and said he knows how it can feel to not be on a varsity team.
