HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Locations across central Nebraska collected expired drugs Saturday to help dispose of them safely.
From Red Cloud to Clay Center to Walmart in Hastings, all of these locations took in expired medications to have them safely destroyed. Sheriff departments helped safely dispose of expired drugs.
This has been a yearly event for the last four years. According to Glenn Kemp, evidence technician with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the event collected 70 pounds worth of expired medications last year.
“It’s also important for people to know that even over-the-counter drugs, expiration dates are very important,” Kemp said. “Because most of the medications are made with some type of poison in the first place. And when they degrade, they turn back into poison.”
