BARNESVILLE, Minn. — The Barnesville football team will play for the Minnesota Section 8-2A championship just as it has every season since 2015.
The Trojans are hoping Jacob Strand saved some touchdowns for it. That's because the sophomore quarterback found the end zone six times Saturday to power Barnesville to a 66-36 home win over Pelican Rapids in the semifinals.
Strand rushed for 152 yards, five TDs and tacked on an 89-yard kickoff return score in the first half. If all of that wasn't enough, he added an interception defensively.
"Our coaches prepared us really well for this game," Strand said. "We got that lead and never looked back."
No. 2 seed Barnesville (7-3) will go for its ninth consecutive section title, taking on No. 5 Hawley (3-7) with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, O
