Class A No. 1 Covenant Christian (19-2-1) and No. 2 Blackhawk Christian (18-0-4) were deadlocked at 2 after 80 minutes of regulation at the Kokomo semistate, and they remained so after two seven-minute overtime periods. But in the shootout the Warriors made just one of their five penalty kicks – two shots were too high, and another two were saved by Blackhawk Christian goalkeeper Isaac Stayton – while the Braves hit two of their first four tries and didn't even need to attempt the fifth to secure their first semistate trophy.
