WACONIA, Minn. — Not a seat was open in Waconia High School's auditorium Saturday afternoon as Governor Walz and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords hosted a gun violence prevention town hall to discuss steps Minnesota elected officials and gun safety organizations are taking to protect individuals from gun violence. Giffords is a survivor of gun violence and a staunch advocate for reform.

Among the speakers was a mother whose third-grade daughter survived the Annunciation School shooting. She said if the Annunciation shooter had not been able to legally buy an assault weapon, they would not have been able to commit their horrific act. She also said that the students that morning lost their sense of safety and their innocence, and that politicians doing nothing in response is unforgivable
