The Gurgaon police Saturday arrested eight people and apprehended a minor for allegedly assaulting a Dalit youth and hurling casteist abuse at him.
The case, the police said, stems from a dispute over bursting firecrackers during Diwali, and is not a caste crime. The incident occurred in Jatola village, Farrukhnagar, Thursday.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim, Kartik, 21, a resident of Jatola, on October 23 at around 7.30 pm, he was sitting outside his house when a group of seven to eight people, including Sahil, Ankit, and Ashu, arrived on a motorcycle. They allegedly assaulted him, with Sahil striking him on the waist with a stick and hurling casteist slurs.
Kartik fled to his house, but the group followed, attacked him again, and threatened to kill him and his family,
