An East Lothian teen who bought his first car three years before he could legally drive has repaired it with his dad using spare parts and videos on YouTube.

Alex Baxter, 14, from Pencaitland, has always had an interest in cars, with his dad, Iain, 48, explaining he could name various models from around the time he started uttering his first words.

Desperate to get his hands on his first set of wheels, Alex would spend hours looking at stacked up motors at the now closed Greenburn Paxton scrapyard, with his pal and IT consultant dad.

A BMW 3 Series compact caught his eye and after twisting his dad’s arm, he was able to haggle his way to the classic for just £550, using his own money for the purchase.
