SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - More than 27 million people worldwide have been victimized by human trafficking, according to the United Nations.
Statistics show 77% are victims of forced labor, while 23% are victims of sex trafficking.
The Stand Against Trafficking Coalition partnered with A21 on Saturday at its annual Global Freedom Summit, an event designed to raise awareness of trafficking and empower communities to take action.
This year’s summit focuses on the urgent issue of online childhood exploitation.
“We go into schools and do public assemblies. Age-appropriate kindergarten, first and second grade, third to fifth, sixth to eighth, and ninth to 12th,” said Ross Tuttle of the Stand Against Trafficking Coalition. “Talking to them about the role that life online plays in their lives.
