ST. LOUIS — A crash likely caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 170 near Interstate 70 killed four people on Monday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at around 1:08 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-170 near the exit ramp for westbound I-70, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. Three of the fatalities were in a single car, while the fourth fatality was the wrong-way driver.
The crash was caused by St. Louis resident George Henderson, 88, driving his 2017 Chevrolet Equinox the wrong way on I-170, officials said. He crashed head-on into a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing the Jeep to flip. A car then struck the Equinox and another car struck the Jeep.
