DURANGO, Colo. —
A man holding a hatchet while checking into a hotel is now in jail, charged with felony menacing, Durango Police Department spokesperson Tom Stuis told KOAT.
When the man came to check into the Durango Lodge on Saturday, he was carrying a hatchet and said he would kill a woman who did not know him, police said.
DPD officers were called and went to the man's door at the hotel. When the man (whose name was not released) opened the door, he was still carrying the hatchet. He then closed the door. Eventually, he exited, surrendered and was arrested.
After the man was removed, police went into the hotel room, where it appeared that he had used the hatchet to smash things.
