A recent ceremony of remembrance hosted by the Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma honored the life and legacy of longtime Coweta County educator Ruby Jones Byrd.

The program was led by her friend and colleague Nelda Boren, who reflected on their decades of friendship, which began when they were among the first elementary instructional lead teachers in Coweta County. That role later evolved into the assistant principal position at the elementary level.

“We supported each other,” Boren said. “We met once a month to share ideas and even textbooks. Once a year, the instructional lead teachers would go on a trip to get training. Ruby was fearless. She would drive us in the district’s white van.”
