From mysterious, dark caves and wild, windswept moorland to villages steeped in history, the Peak District is a place which lends itself to a spooky tale.

It’s not just a backdrop for myths and legends, in fact many of the haunting stories that have originated from this national park are very much rooted in real events.

Take the village of Eyam, also known as the Plague Village, where residents isolated themselves in 1666 during the bubonic plague. Their valiant efforts helped to protect nearby dwellings, but resulted in the deaths of 260 people with some families nearly wiped out.

But there are also tales of ghostling sightings, including the white knight who’s said to haunt Peveril Castle, which is perched on a hill above Castleton.
