LSU leadership is having discussions about the future of coach Brian Kelly , multiple sources told The Advocate on Sunday afternoon. There has not been a resolution, and the conversations are ongoing.

Kelly would be owed a roughly $53 million buyout if he is fired without cause, according to his contract, which would be the second-largest in college football history. One element of the conversations has been a potential negotiated buyout, sources said.

The buyout could be reduced by any “football-related employment” he has next, per the contract, including in coaching, administration or media. Kelly’s buyout would be paid in equal monthly installments through 2031.
