After heavy winds knocked hundreds of thousands off the grid this weekend across Western Washington, the lights were slowly flickering back on Sunday.

Despite the disruptions — traffic lights knocked out, businesses and homes left in the dark — some of the areas hardest hit by gusts were the least fazed. Wind speeds reached up to 77 mph Saturday night at Bowerman Airport in Hoquiam, Grays Harbor County.

“It was very windy,” said Milt Cantellay, an elder at Faith Community Church in Grays Harbor County. “But I wouldn’t say it’s atypical.”

At the storm’s peak, at least 254,000 customers lost power as the storm rocked the Washington coastline and the Puget Sound region.
