A man was fatally stabbed in his Royal Oak home Friday night, Royal Oak police said, and a suspect was in custody.
Royal Oak police went to the 4300 block of Sheridan Drive at about 9:30 p.m. Friday in response to a report of a man calling for help.
Officers found a 35-year-old woman "with blood on her hands" and detained her after a brief foot chase, the department said in a press release posted over the past weekend.
They went into a home and found an 83-year-old man who had been stabbed multiple times and was unresponsive.
Royal Oak officers and Fire Department paramedics attempted to provide aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
Police said the woman and man knew each other. She was a guest in his home at the time of the stabbing.
